What to Gather for Your Wedding Detail Photos

Details details details… Raise your hand if you are a little obsessed with wedding day details! [insert me raising my hand high!]

Whether it’s paper goods, the invitation suite, florals, the dress, your rings & ring boxes, candles, vintage decor, heirloom details, lace, the veil, jewelry, or shoes… Give me all of it! As a Chicagoland and 30A destination wedding photographer I’ve been photographing wedding days since 2014, and wedding details have always had my heart. There are so many parts to each wedding day where the details bring everything together.

Today on the blog, I’m sharing a list of what to gather for your wedding detail photos. Let’s jump in!

1) Rings & Ring Boxes

What’s a wedding day without photos of your beautiful rings! I recommend that you clean the bling before your wedding day so that your rings are sparkly and clean on your big day. Please gather all the rings (your ring, your fiancé’s ring, and any other wedding bands) in one place along with your custom ring box (if you have one!) for detail photos of your rings.

2) The Dress & Veil

I recommend having your dress steamed and hanging on a pretty hanger at the start of your wedding day. Bonus points if your veil is hanging and photo-ready, too!

3) Stationery & Paper Goods

Think save the dates, wedding invitations, invitation inserts, programs, menus, wax seals, stamps, and more! Wedding stationery and paper goods truly frame the style and vibe of your wedding day. I love photographing gorgeous paper goods!

4) Bridal Jewelry

If you’re planning on wearing any special jewelry (old, new, borrowed, or blue) – gather all of your bridal jewelry in one place! I love taking photos of your necklace, earrings, bracelets, and family heirloom jewelry with your flat lay details.

5) Groom’s Accessories

Don’t forget out the groom’s details, too! I recommend gathering the groom’s tie, cufflinks, shoes, watch, socks, and any other special or heirloom details.

6) Perfume & Cologne

Many couples choose to wear a special perfume or cologne on their wedding day. Some couples gift each other perfume or cologne on their wedding days, too! Whatever the case, I think it’s incredibly special to capture these perfume and cologne details. Maybe you’ll be saving these bottles to wear on special occasions like on your wedding anniversary to bring you back in time to your wedding day!

6) Extra Details & Textures

Think of things like… Loose florals from your florist, a custom painted bottle of champagne, a piece of your wedding dress material, silk ribbon, ring dishes, stamps, wax seals, and more.

One of my favorite pieces of advice when it comes to this list of what to gather for your wedding detail photos? I recommend to each of my couples that they gather and set aside a “details box” with all of the items they wanted photographed in their wedding detail photos and flay lay photos. I start out wedding days focused on the details, so trust me, it makes the start of your wedding day and our time together a breeze!
